What the Body Tells Us about Leadership

MCWest

0

Leaders must sometimes transcend the way their personality is perceived. To accomplish this, they need to think of themselves in terms of the whole person: the intellect, the emotions, the relationships, and even the physical body. With roots in contemplative practice, dance choreography, and organizational learning work, a method of intervention called social presencing theater (SPT) is yielding insights into the nature of managerial prowess. An SPT session is like a human sculpture, in which organizational members arrange themselves as a model of the system they work within. In this Thought Leader interview, innovators C. Otto Scharmer and Arawana Hayashi describe the insights that emerge and the changes that take place when leadership is embodied in physical movement.
